Do you think maybe that art will suffer under the triumph of reason? I havn't seen much art from this era with the possible exception of Phish music... :-), seriously, we seem to be approaching an era that Nietzsche describes in book 1 of Zarathustra, i.e - the "last Man".. human beings are no longer historical creators, but unhistorical, comfortable zombies.
The Origin of art, could it be.. suffering and discomfort? Historically, our society seems to have little place for real 'artists'.. for example, Instead of painting to sublimate, Bosche would be put on prozac. Now that we have a cure for syphillis, we would have no place for Lautrec... Wilde, if living now, could explore his orientation through PFLAG and not through his stirring poetry... it is strange, eh? If art is to survive we need new fuel...
