Its not just September 11th. Its also Georgie Junior in office looking to finish Daddy's unfinished war. Its also his personal ideology. Its also the ideology of a culture: lay down and comply, if you don't we'll make you. The present world situation makes Iraq's compliance too unlikely to tolerate, so we have to spank it.
But there is also this --USA is a democratic country and the popele's will does indeed matter. There is a large contingency in this country that is not interested in imposing its will on other people. Involvement in Iraq crosses boundaries for some people. They say that we should leave them alone, that we have no business continuing to sanction them and no business attacking them just because they have been our enemy in the past and in this particular time it is important to attack all possible enemies without direct provocation. So America didn;t finish Saddam off before because it was not the right thing to do. America is willing to do it now because it perceives the situation as changing what is wright and wrong. Its now "okay" to go in there without provocation and attack the shit out of that country until it gives up completely to America's will.
