Alan Watts in his book "The Book" states that we are not an ego in a bag of skin. The Oxygen that is part of us one moment, becomes part of the environment the next moment by the act of the skin breathing. We cannot differentiate between us and the environment that we exist within. His conclusion is that the only true identity for "I" is the entire universe. So the statement "I exist" does become superflous. But it also becomes profoundly affirmative. To make the statement "I Exist" not only declares an individual, but also the precise moment in the evolutionary history of the universe.
km and jg, let's go one step further.
As existentialists, if we chose to label ourselves as such, can we with this insight into the human condition, do something more to affect the world, than someone without this insight?
