Abstraction is what intellect does. Instinct, alas, is suppressed in humans. Bergson spoke of uniting the
two into what he called "intuition". He said in *Creative Evolution* (p. 167): "There are things alone
intelligence is able to seek, but which, by itself, will never find. These things alone instinct could find, but it will never seek them."
